Treat Yourself! Treat Al Khamsa! We are delighted to announce that Al Khamsa, Inc. is now able to offer high quality coffee, tea, chocolate, trail mix, macadamia nuts and mugs through a secure, online connection. Everything you buy through this link will contribute to the support of Al Khamsa’s educational efforts and help you promote your horses as well.

The company doing this for us will be offering generic Al Khamsa-labeled products featuring only our logo as well as custom labels that will feature your own horses. You can purchase these as favors for your next barn party or as gifts, letting folks go home with a constant reminder of your beauties; or simply keep the larder stocked with gourmet coffee, tea, and other treats and help Al Khamsa at the same time. Gourmet coffee is available in both whole bean and freshly ground coffee in one-pound packages. Tea can be purchased loose or in bags.

When the new Al Khamsa website debuts in January, there will be an easy-to-find link that will take you directly to our completely secure store front. Until then, contact Fundraising Chair Pamela Klein directly at pameladragon@hughes.net for ordering information and a full list of products.

We are looking for volunteers, particularly from the four-state “host” region (Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma), to help with all the activities. Farm News
Some Arkansas Al Khamsa Straight Egyptian Arabians are having a very successful year in the show ring! At the 2007 Arkansas Fall Fling in Little Rock, Immell (Imtaarif x Aniya) was Grand Champion Stallion, Champion ATH Stallion, Supreme ATH Champion and Supreme Show Champion. HF Emeera Isis (Immell x Bo-Mars Dashira) was Reserve Grand Champion Mare and Reserve ATH Champion Mare – as a two-year-old! They are both owned by Sue Burnham and Joan Skeels of Hope Farm in Cove, Arkansas.

Immell

HF Emeera Isis

Sue also passed along some excellent International show results, “We just heard our colt, HF Darius, that we bred and exported to Israel, sired six National Top 5 Winners shown last week: three mares and three stallions—not bad for an Arkansas born and bred horse!”

RA Bint Numana (Imperial Im Mamul x AK Numana), owned by Scarlet White Acklin from Enola, Arkansas, was Hunter Pleasure JTR Champion, Native Costume Champion and Hunter Pleasure Jackpot Champion. This is her first show season and Scarlet’s first Straight Egyption mare. A winning team!

RA Bint Numana

HF Faryda

At the 2007 Texas State Fair Class “A” Arab Show, Thee Halima B (Thee Gambler x Ansata Aniq) was Grand Champion Stallion. At the 2007 Magnolia Classic 2, HF Faryda (Immell x Faryda Bint Mahdia) was Reserve Senior Champion Mare and Reserve Grand Champion Mare. Both are owned by Jan Alexander, another new Straight Egyption owner in Jacksonville, Arkansas.

Another outstanding Al Khamsa Straight Egyptian Arabian at the Arkansas Fall Fling was Sneferu (ZT Faaiq x Sabahiyah) who was Grand Champion Gelding, Champion ATH Gelding and Liberty Champion. He is proudly owned by Barbara Lewis of Mena, Arkansas.

Dunkeld Arabians in Mena
We are delighted to announce that the 2000 bay Babson stallion BA Ser Isaac by Serpreme (Serr Rou x Bah Habba) and out of Mah Amy (Mahrouf x Fay Amy), traveled to Missouri earlier this year and is with Joe and Linda Berry. I am so grateful to Joe and Linda for taking Ser Isaac and standing him at stud at a time when I was unable to offer him the opportunities he needed. This very special stallion is far too important to be hidden in Mena with no opportunities to be bred. Ser Isaac has flourished under Joe’s very special care. Thank you, Joe.

BA Ser Isaac

El Dahma Halima, at age 3

I am delighted to be able to report that Ser Isaac bred two straight Babson mares belonging to Larry Green in 2007. They are Fa Asaria and Masada Salena. Next year, he will be bred to several Babson mares, including my own Nadara Bint Sabiya (Masada Ben Asar x Zahara Sabiya) and my own precious Dunkeld Mairi, a Babson/*Ansata Ibn Halima mare and the last daughter of El Dahma Halima (Ra’adin Inshalla x Zahara Zabiya).

Michael sent this lovely photograph of Almohada (SA Premier x SA Adorable) to the Davenport Discussion group that Margaret Tierney (that’s Ambar’s mom!) took just after the convention. Almohada is a four-year-old Davenport mare in the Schilla group.

Skinners Ranchito Arabe, Southern California
Jeanne Craver wrote on October 28: “Ed Skinner, who is the Guiding Spirit of the southern California Davenport community, as well as many others of us across the country, is seriously ill in Lancaster Community Hospital. His many friends in the area are keeping close and supportive contact with him, and Charles just finished speaking with him.

“Ed and his wife Hope knew Carl Raswan and many of the early California Arabian horses. They were in on the new foundation of Davenport horses from the early ‘60s. Without their help, the blood of the stallion Dharantez would not be available to us today, and they consistently worked toward Davenport outreach both within the Davenport community and out into the regular Arabian community.”

Kaarin Ferguson: “Maggie and Barry Olson, who have been his constant caregivers for months and continue to see to his daily needs, tell me he loves to get photos of the Davenports he has known or had some connection to. Maggie tells me that even though this relocation is in lieu of a hospice facility, he is as sharp as ever and still the ‘storyteller extraordinaire.’”

Christine Emmert, rapidly becoming a patron saint of Al Khamsa photographers, sent this photo of Ed’s 20-year-old mare SRA Amshah (SRA-Manfred x Galiana) at the Paso Robles convention with Maggie Olson up. Representing three generations of Ed and Hope’s Kuhaylan Davenport breeding, this mare has been all over the Sierras with Ed on board.

Bonnie Duecker, November 11: "With great sadness I just learned that our wonderful Ed Skinner passed away this evening. He was truly one of the dearest friends I have ever had, and truly the Davenport horses’ best friend as well... Godspeed my friend, we love you and we will miss you always."

Lorry Wagner, November 13: "... We also shared the love of the Davenport Arabians. Our Arabian world has lost another of our finest. Another bright light has gone out here on earth but will always be a shining star in my heart."

Ed and Norma Brace from Double-B-Ranch near Couch report that Masada Shaladin (Raadin Inshalla x Masada Faadana) has two mares in foal for 2008! Confirmed are: JA Sabah Halima (Raadin Inshalla x Moss Hill Sabah) and Roshunara CCR (Serr Halim++ x Roshanara). At 20 years old, Masada Shaladin, a.k.a. “Salty”, has not yet left any male heirs for his rare Sheykh Obeyd, Babson/*Ibn Halima breeding group and has only one Sheykh Obeyd/Al Khamsa female descendant. Ed says “Sabah is my main hope of a replacement for Salty, so we have our fingers crossed so to speak. I guess you just do the best you can and keep going on.”

Well, we are safely back from the Al Khamsa Convention in California. Kim and I had a great time. It was wonderful to meet all the different breeders and lovers of the desert horses! We learned so much from the different talks. We appreciate the chance to learn from experienced people.

Since we have been back, Hallanys Gem Tak, our Straight Egyptian/Sheykh Obeyd/Al Khamsa Stallion, is getting a refresher course in saddle work. He hasn’t been ridden in two years, but he didn’t miss a beat when asked to remember. For the winter, he will be back in the training ring until breeding season next year. He does have his first Straight Egyptian/Sheykh Obeyd/Al Khamsa mare in foal for next year. That is so exciting for us.

We have made our reservations for next year’s convention. We look forward to bringing Hallany to Tulsa to meet you all. We also can’t wait to help put it all together. Again, it was nice to meet everyone.

Hallanys Gem Tak

Iona Ristine’s Al Khamsa Horses: On a more important note, the horses in California who had belonged to Iona Ristine are still available for placement in preservation homes. If you were at the convention you know which horses these are. If not, you can contact me if you know someone who may be interested in knowing more, or if you are yourself. I have pictures, registered names and contact information. We also have a trailer that will be coming out of California at some point in the near future that will probably have some space available. It will be coming to the midwest.

• Jai Fadurra Halim #626247 2004 Black Stallion
• Juans Sable #512496 1992 Bay Stallion
• Fa Durra Halim #272090 1983 Black Stallion
• Jai Bahat Kahalil Reg Pending 2004 Black/Bay Stallion
• Sefit En Raa #501847 1994 Black Mare

We have had some success with finding homes for a few, but most remain. Lisa will take Juans Sable just to give him a home, if no one else will. I have someone who would take the black mare and provide a very good home for her, but if someone would take her and her long time pasture mate, Fa Durra Halim together, that would be even better. I thought the 2004 stallion was quite flashy looking and the 2004 black/bay would make a great gelding. Please pass this around to everyone you know, especially people who could provide a home for these horses without incurring huge transportation expenses. If you get any nibbles, please send them our way and we can send photos and get them in touch with the folks who have them. Let’s do what we can to help these kindhearted people find homes for their departed friends beloved horses!! Have to brag on our 12 yr old son Lincoln and his Davenport mare, Heather Alkrush (bred by Kim Davis). He rode endurance with his dad this year and even rode 1 1⁄2 rides with a different sponsor as Adam was having issues with his mare, Samaara Ivey.

These are the unofficial results for Lincoln this year: PNER (Pacific Northwest Endurance Riders, covering OR, WA, ID, MT, BC & maybe more) ~ #2 in Junior Points, #3 in Junior Miles, #1 Junior Novice and #1 Oregon Points. Heather won overall Junior Best Condition championship. In one ride, she came in a very close second for high Vet Score against the entire field.

AERC (American Endurance Riders Conference) ~ #4 in the NW region Jr Division (based on points and only rides 50 miles or over). Anyway, we’re just pretty darn proud of him and his willingness to ride in any weather and distance. He and Heather have a nice thing going.

In our August issue, the gray mare was misidentified as Luz Del Ivey. She is definitely Lilly Ivey. The real photo of Luz Del Ivey, the bay mare, is identified correctly. See above! Jannelle took these photos at Rickie Conrad’s on September 3, 2007.

MSF Karima (Kahream x Saafadda CHF), 2000 Al Khamsa bay mare in foal to Faydin Sameer (Faydin x MSF Noel) for May 2008 foal—excellent broodmare, 14.3hh, big-bodied, sweet temperament, excellent ground manners. Karima leads, lunges, ties, excellent for farrier, vet, etc. She is up-to-date on all shots, worming etc. She lunges with equipment, but is not comfortable with a rider so is being sold as a broodmare. Karima would go under saddle with patience, very kind and willing, just worried. Lots of big forward movement.

Faydin Sameer is a Black Babson Bred (62%) Combined Source Al Khamsa Stallion. Karima and Faydin Sameer’s lines will produce a correct, tall, pretty, athletic foal for your program or sport horse use. Their preservation lines in Al Khamsa are rare and would start off or round out an excellent breeding program. $2200 or best offer. We would like to have her in a new home before winter—can include a breed back to either Faydin Sameer or Rare Element Roan Stallion, AEP Kamar. See photos on website. TEXAS

Khamsat Express Reporter Morgan Millner in Dallas
rbcavaliermommy@yahoo.com

Al Khamsa owners in Texas, please send news to the email address above for inclusion in the next Khamsat Express.

I have some news to report on an Al Khamsa stallion in Texas. Also, some additional news from area farms. Attached is a photo of RB Cavalier at the Regional Championships (plus a head shot) in addition to a photo of Premier Sport Horse’s gray stallion, Andara Prinz Amir.

RB Cavalier, a black Al Khamsa stallion, competed at the Region 9 Sport Horse Championships in July for the first time this year at the tender age of 16. Cavalier has just come back from a horrible accident that left him with five broken ribs and a punctured lung in addition to keeping him from attending Youth Nationals last year for Western Pleasure, so his mere presence in the ring was a miracle in and of itself.

He was just attending as a fun farewell to the ring, certainly not with the intention of winning. After all, he had no professional sport horse training, had only seen the sport horse ring twice and had a handler who had no training in sport horse either. However, he had already shown his strength and quality by nabbing a championship earlier this year in western pleasure in his first appearance back in the ring, qualifying for the Regionals, and competing successfully in the adult division, missing a region 9 Top 5 in the AOTR class by one judge’s placing.

Morgan and Cavalier

In addition to his successes in the ring, he bred his first Al Khamsa mares this year and looks forward to foals in 2008 from Princess Nazira and HAF Kilaza. He has also been recognized by area warmblood and stock cross breeders and looks forward to foals from Appendix, Thoroughbred, Dutch Warm Blood and domestic Arabian mares. Look for more information on Cavalier at www.rbcavalier.com

To complicate the prospect of success on the regional level, he was showing against regional and national winning stallions that had already attained titles across the country. With age, muscle tone, no professional training, and a competitive group of horses, it was just going to be a fun trip with no expectations. However, he surprised everyone by performing extremely well in the ring and the judge awarded him a Region 9 Top 5 (4th place) above multiple nationally titled stallions. He did not go on to nationals this year; however, he might pursue a national title at the age of 17 at the 2008 Sport horse Nationals. He has officially retired from the western pleasure ring, however, after four seasons and 11 Championships and Reserves in addition to success at the youth national level. He is also a Liberty champion, Most classic winner, hunter winner and Reserve halter Champion.

Other Texas Farm News
Premier Sport Horses is a new and exciting program opening its doors in Texas this year. They have finished the ‘07 show season with 3 regional wins out of 3 competitors and 1 national top ten from 1 competitor in additional to a plethora of championships on the class “A” level. Though they boast numerous beautiful Egyptian crosses as well as Domestic bred, they are launching an Al Khamsa and Straight Egyptian program with some excellent Kamshah, The Shamin and Moniet El Sharaf daughters, in addition to the stunning Regional Top 5 Stallion and two-time Egyptian Event winner, undefeated most classic Andara Prinz Amir. They look forward to national competition with their outstanding group of Al Khamsa horses and will have their first AK foals on the ground in 2009. Check out their website at www.premiersporthorses.com

Andara Prinz Amira

Congratulations to Sport Horse Nationals Top 10 Stallion and Sport Horse under Saddle Top 10, The Ali Shamin, who took 6th in a very large, very competitive group of horses this year. The Ali Shamin boasts numerous regional wins and excitedly adds his first national Top 10’s to his list of accomplishments. A Texas-based son of The Shamin, The Ali Shamin continues a legacy of excellence with his recent wins.

Congratulations to Ashlee Rogers of Southlake, Texas on the sale of her beautiful HalimsDarkDestiny, a winning hunter pleasure black Al Khamsa stallion to Missouri where he will breed an outstanding group of mares and secure a legacy of his own.

It was the first time a Straight Davenport showed at the Crabbet Alliance of Texas annual show. Now of course the horses are CMK so there is a lot of Davenport influence to be seen, but this was the first Straight Davenport in the show.

Golden Poppet (Popinjay x Miss Fancy Free by Quantum LD) won the 2007 CMK foal class. There were only three so it wasn’t a huge deal. The horses are scored on score cards, and at the end of the show, Poppet was 3rd in points over all horses and age groups, just missing out of Reserve CMK Championship by one point. She was a perfect angel at four months old. She really is a beautiful example of Davenport breeding.

Bill and Pamela Klein are sad to announce the passing of Arion GCA, a 12-year-old Davenport Core Haifi stallion (Zacharia x Demeter), October 16, of still undetermined causes. Arion has three foals in utero for 2008 but no replacements in the core Haifi strain.

Arion was a beautifully moving, gentle boy with a sweet and loving temperament. Jennifer Blosser started him under saddle last year and he was showing a lot of talent as a sport horse. He was also safe around youngsters and beginners, seemingly taking them under his wing and seeing to their safety. Arion suffered fools gladly and never lost his temper. He will be missed and his get cherished.

This fine old man, now 27 years young, has about 70 Al Khamsa descendants, even more part Arabian and general list offspring, into the third generation, and shows no signs of slowing down.

Alas, it is unlikely that he will sire any more foals due to an unfortunate infection, but he still has the style and presence to inspire future Davenport owners with the glory that is a Davenport stallion in full bloom. Besides, you never know, it only takes one to make a baby, his constant companion Lolita (a.k.a. Porteabella TW) could certainly pleasantly surprise us.

Sport is happy to receive visitors. If you have never seen this horse in the flesh, it is worth the trip. He is both magnificent and gracious, with the manners of true royalty and loves attention. Just give us a call or email to make arrangements for an audience.

Royal Triumph TW (pending) Heads West. The Weyr is pleased to announce that Royal Triumph TW (pending) a gray? Colt by Tribute CF out of Divine Lilac will be traveling to Nebraska in a few weeks to grow into the job of herd sire in a Hadba breeding project. This boy is a first from both parents and has been a great joy for us. He has great type, temperament, and substance and is a sweetie pie to boot. He has a great future ahead of him and we do expect that his get will be special. Congratulations Greg and Marie Arthur on acquiring this tremendous Davenport colt, we expect great things from him.

For Sale or Trade: Baheera—1993 Babson/Sirecho Sheykh Obeyd mare. sired by Mahroufs Image and out of Fa Wakana. We are retaining her son for breeding and with such a small herd we cannot have too many mares related to our boys so we are either selling her or trading. Trade must be a mare and closer to Alberta (i.e., not lower states, thank you!). Baheera is started under saddle. She is open for this year, as we had a few maiden mares that we decided to breed instead, but I can offer a breeding to either Sirecho’s Lancelot or DU Mi Jamil for her for 2008. She has turned into a very sweet mare, loves attention, and is maintaining a healthy weight (not too fat). She can be haltered in a 40 acre pasture, lifts feet, loads well. I want a really good home for her or else she will just stay with us. I would also offer an on farm lease if anyone is just interested in a foal. Thank you!

I would like to congratulate Sarah Donaghy of Abbotsford, BC on her purchase of Mistarea (Zarmid x Tarea Cotta). Sarah, I look forward to hearing about your competition in endurance and CRT with her; I know you will really enjoy her.

I am sad to see Mistarea go to a new home, especially since she was my last Arabian mare, but due to personal health issues, raising and showing my Miniature Horses is more practical for me. I just felt that Mistarea is too nice a horse to stay here as a pet. She is a fine example of an Al Khamsa Arabian and her *Turfa breeding shows. My first love is the Arabian horse and I will continue to enjoy keeping up on the Al Khamsa happenings.

Shy Gayfeen++++// (Safeen x Gayleen RCA), The Most Winning Straight Egyptian show horse past or present. 1998 Bay Straight Egyptian/Al Khamsa stallion of the Hadban Inzahi strain—Sweepstakes nominated sire—SCID clear.

It’s a funny thing how great horses can come into our lives so unexpectedly. In May 1999, I moved to a new boarding stable with my 1/2 Arabian gelding. On the farm were 26 Straight Egyptian horses and the owner had fallen on hard times and was dispersing the herd. In fact they were getting run through a local auction within the week. I wasn’t looking for another horse at the time, but I did fall in love with this one beautiful mare Gayleen RCA (The Minstril x SF Bint Saher). She looked like she could have been a national level hunter. I inquired about her and found out that she was older and not broke, but she had a yearling colt in one of the paddocks. I spotted him right away; he looked like his dam. However, he was skinny and potbellied, he had over grown feet and a mane full of burrs and was just very pathetic looking. I knew he needed me. I told the owner if I could catch him, I’d buy him. I went out into the paddock full of yearling and two-year-old colts fully expecting to never be able to get near him. This little colt they called “Hugo” wasn’t halter broke, but he knew I was there for him. All his little buddies ran away, but he walked straight up to me and I gently slipped the halter over his head. Hugo never looked back; he followed me out of the paddock and into the trailer. I paid the owner cash and we shook hands. He said to me, “Do you realize that you just got the deal of the century; that is one hell of a colt.” I laughed and thought to myself, maybe if he survives his first deworming. I honestly felt at the time that I was doing a “rescue”, little did I know that Shy Gayfeen++++// would pay me back, fulfilling my dreams of owning a national level show horse.

After receiving his registration papers, I realized that not only was he Straight Egyptian, but also his pedigree was full of National winners in halter and performance. By the end of that summer, after a few months of care and attention, the little colt started to grow and fill out. I started to think, “This is one fancy horse!” So, in the fall of 1999, I asked an Arabian horse trainer what she thought of the colt. To be honest, this was my first Straight Egyptian horse and I purchased him to be my show gelding; I wasn’t a horse breeder. She came out to look at him and immediately told me, “Don’t you geld this colt!” I took her advice, but knew he’d have to prove himself, and so his show career began.

Shy Gayfeen++++// went to his first show in 2000 and within six years had become the first and only Straight Egyptian horse to receive the Arabian Horse Association’s highest honors, both the Legion of Excellence and the Legion of Masters awards. Hugo is also one of only three living purebred Arabian stallions to have won both these prestigious awards, thus giving him the honour of being the most winning Straight Egyptian horse in history. Some of his career highlights include three times Canadian National Top Ten Hunter Pleasure, 32 Regional titles in Halter Stallions, Hunter Pleasure Open and Amateur, and Ladies Side Saddle.

Shy Gayfeen++++//

NWA Shy Shamal

In 2003, we took him to Kentucky and he was the Egyptian Event Unanimous Champion World Class Stallions four- and five-year-olds. He has acquired countless Class A wins in these divisions, as well as many high points and Horse of the Year awards. He has shown all over Canada, in the USA, and we have been blessed to have some great Arabian horse trainers come into our lives along the way. Hugo’s outstanding temperament and trainability have allowed him to achieve these awards with several riders and handlers. He’s an uncomplicated horse and when he hits that show ring he’s there to do his job.

As a young sire, Shy Gayfeen++++// is also proving himself; he’s producing offspring that can halter and perform. His first three foals to be shown were all Unanimous AHA recognized regional level halter champions. His oldest foal, Anything But Shy++, a four-year-old this year, has already achieved his Legion of Merit, and has 12 regional titles in halter and hunter pleasure and many Class A wins in hunter pleasure, halter, western pleasure, sport horse in hand and sport horse under saddle as well. Hugo is passing on his excellent temperament and trainablility, great legs, hip and topline, producing foals that are not only great halter horses, but also great performance horses as well.

To produce your next champion, Shy Gayfeen++++// stands at Todd Ehret’s; he can be contacted at 780.352.0332. You can also contact myself for more information by email piblet@shaw.ca if you’d like a DVD or look at his website www.shygayfeen.com.

Here is a photo of our granddaughter and Fan-Safir, actually taken a few years ago, but her mom loved the photo so much she asked if I would include it in the Khamsat Express. Fan-Safir had a filly this year by Kismet DL so the Weil ancestral element tracing to Soldateska is just hanging on by a thread in Al Khamsa.

Imported by ourselves as a foal in 1991, Classic-Maidan is the only direct tail-male descendent in the UK of the world famous “elite stallion” Kaisoon, whose “look” and extreme desert type Maidan passes on consistently to his offspring along with his own fantastic movement and lots and lots of attitude.

Classic-Maidan

Maidan is a horse of commanding presence whose sire ended his days at Count Zichy-Thyssen’s ZT Arabians in Argentina whilst his dam Toka won International Championships on both occasions that she was shown and was also the dam of Paris Top Five mare UP Tammany, who was also the 1997 female champion at the Egyptian Event Europe. Toka’s sire El Moutawakil was out of a full sister of Ansata Bint Bukra and by Sameh, the sire of US National Champion Mare *Serenity Sonbolah and of *Sultann the sire of US National Reserve Champion Park Horse Sakr the sire of Nabiel. Maidan’s grandsire, the ultra-typey and tragically short-lived elite stallion Maymoon was a maternal half brother of the elite stallion Messaoud, sire of the late Imperial Madheen. During his short life Maymoon (who was never shown himself) sired over 25 National and International Champions and 3 winners of the demanding German Stallion Licensing Shows.

Classic-Maidan is an ideal outcross for Straight Egyptian mares of intense *Morafic and/or Ansata breeding since he carries the blood of neither, The cross results in a combination of exotic type coupled with radically improved structure and correctness. Tested SCID free. Frozen semen from Classic-Maidan is available for international shipping (Europe, USA, Australia & NZ). Please contact us for further details

Azim Ibn Alidaar
Sired by the international superstar Alidaar, full brother of the legendary Ruminaja Ali, and who is now owned by Al Shaqab Arabians in Qatar, Azim is a striking and very pretty horse with a great topline, fantastic tail carriage and huge liquid eyes not to mention very good limbs. Bred in the purple, his pedigree is as superb as his temperament. His dam Dorian Sha Halima is a daughter of US National Top Ten stallion *Ansata Ibn Halima out of a full sister of multi-champion stallion Dorian ShahElShams, who was by 1982 Canadian National Champion Stallion Shah Nishan, a full brother of the 1976 US National Futurity Champion Ibn Morafic. Azim’s great granddam Kisra was a full sister of Abenhetep, the sire of Patrick Swayze’s late stallion Tammen and a half sister of AK Khattaara the dam of the Elite German stallion Al Kidir. Tested SCID free.
