Soldateska (WL),
#32 in the Stutbuch
Weil-Marbach
Grey Mare foaled 5/31/11
bred by Weil Stud, Germany
sired by Souakim (WL) out of Sylphide I (WL)
Soldateska was included in the 1976 Al Khamsa
Directory (and the subsequent
1983 Al Khamsa Arabians) on a provisional basis, without extended
pedigree,
because of proposed acceptance by the Blue Catalog at that time. Al
Khamsa's
first attempt at publishing an extended pedigree for Soldateska is
published
in Al Khamsa Arabians II (1993). Over the last ten years, the source
material
for this pedigree has been examined in more detail and errors in source
attribution cleared up. New sources of information have been published
or located. This additional research, conducted over the last several
years,
has found nothing to impugn the authenticity of her documentation and
credentials.
Therefore, Soldateska has been 1) removed from "provisional" status and
2) added to the official Roster of AK horses.
Soldateska was the dam of 10 foals bred by the
Weil-Marbach stud farm.
(The Royal Stud at Weil became a State Stud, transferred to Marbach in
1932.) Soldateska's only otherwise Al Khamsa-eligible progeny was her
daughter,
Jatta, foaled in 1933 by the stallion Jasir, a full brother to the
Babson
imports *Fadl and *Maaroufa, bred by Prince Mohamed Aly of Egypt.
Jatta's
only otherwise Al Khamsa-eligible descent was her daughter, Sahmet,
foaled
in 1957 by the stallion Hadban Enzahi (Nazeer/Kamla), bred by the
RAS/EAO
of Egypt. Sahmet was the dam of 15 foals bred by Marbach, most by Al
Khamsa
eligible stallions imported to Germany from Egypt (Ghazal, her sire
Hadban
Enzahi, and Gharib). In North America, the Soldateska line is
represented
by two offspring of Sahmet's son by Ghazal, *KEM Safir by Hadban
Enzahi.
